FoSHoL project has diversity in its service providers/partners, participating farmers, number of farm households, direct and indirect clients, types of interventions (technology, linkages, processing, marketing etc.), geographic coverage and intervention areas. IRRI is playing the coordinating role of this project. While the three implementing NGOs deliver interventions to small and marginal farmers to improve the food security of their households, IRRI as a coordinating agency will ensure that the activities are conducted in a coherent, consistent, effective and efficient manner.
The coordination will ensure that the target farmers have easy access to relevant technologies, the selection of technologies and their delivery is consistent with the policies of the main stakeholders, particularly the GoB and the EC. The coordination will achieve the following objectives:
- Provide guidance and facilitation to the implementing NGOs for selection of relevant interventions to farmer needs, based on sound technical expertise, effective and able to be sustainable
- Improve the uptake, impact and sustainability of the interventions through effective dissemination practices
- Efficient delivery of each implementing NGO's interventions through the use of the best available technical expertise, extension skills, management capacity and economy of scale
- Improve the outcomes of the project through synergy between the interventions, and the multiplier effect of working coherently
- Ensure overall implementation of the EC funded interventions is continually improved through a common and effective M&E process
- Increase the sustainability through the involvement of Government of Bangladesh
- Increase the ‘institutional memory' in Bangladesh of the interventions and their history
- Facilitate communication between all stakeholders and in particular between the implementing NGOs and EC
