Joyonto Kumar Saha is an agricultural labourer of Hatimondola village of Sofapur union under Mohadevpur upazila. He barely can support his family by his paltry income from his day labouring job in other people's lands. In such bleak situation of poverty he and his wife Purabi Rani Saha once enrolled themselves in the local farmer's group organized by Apex-FoSHoL-CARE project. There they got acquainted with the Apex field trainer Mr. Manzur Rahman. In one group meeting, the members had a discussion on potential and feasible income generating activities. There Joyonto and his wife both showed interest to set up a nursery in the adjacent fallow land of their homestead.Seeing their interest, FT Mr. Manzur Rahman came forward to provide advice and necessary supports to set up a nursery in couple's homestead's adjacent land. |

Joyonto fist attended in the nursery development training organized by Apex-FoSHoL-CARE. After the training, he set up his nursery and he also has started doing mango tree grafting. He takes Tk. 5 as per his wage to do grafting in one mango tree. He gets very busy now as “a grafting man” that he gets more than one call at a time from the neighbouring farmers to do grafting. Almost everyday early in the morning Joyonto sets off for his call for grafting with his bag contains a knife, tape and some polythene, the essential tools for grafting. His fame as a “skilled grafting man” is not limited to his own village Hatimondola but spreads across all the other villages under Sofapur union. Besides this, the saplings in his nursery are becoming mature enough to be sold. He is expecting a good profit by selling these saplings in near future. In his nursery he has saplings of Mango, Jujube, Lime, Guava, Blackberry and Nim. At present he is earning on an average Tk. 100-200 daily by doing grafting in his village and surrounding villages, which he thinks is quite a good additional income to support his family better than before. |
