A day long workshop will be held on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at BRAC Centre Inn, 75 Mohakhali, Dhaka 1212. This workshop will be attended by officials of public, private sector, NGOs and a group of farmers to discuss the issues related to vegetable seed production and supply system at the farm level.

An inaugural function of the workshop will be held at 9:00 am at the same venue. Mr. M. Abdul Aziz ndc, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Executive Chairman, BARC and Dr Klaus-Dieter Gautsch, First Secretary and Head of Section, EC Delegation are expected to be the Special Guests.

Dr. Zainul Abedin, IRRI Representative for Bangladesh and Team Leader, FoSHoL-Coordination Project will preside over the function.

Dr. S. M. Monwar Hossain, an eminent horticulturist, will present the key note paper.

Objectives:
A. Assess the current situation of quality seed availability of improved varieties of vegetables at different project sites, constraints and scope for improvement
B. Disseminate information about characters of improved vegetable varieties / hybrids developed by public and private sectors and their seed availability
C. Furmulate recommendations on relevant issues to improve the seed production and supply system to support the homestead based vegetable production system and linking farmers with public and private sectors.

Output:
Participants will learn about the new varieties of vegetables developed by public and private sectors and availability of seeds for use to improve the homestead vegetable production system.
