FoSHoL-CARE's 4th Advisory Committee meeting held

The 4th Advisory Committee meeting of FoSHoL-CARE was held in Chez Razzak Service Centre in Rajshahi on 10 July 2007. The main purposes of the meeting were to: (a) share FoSHoL project's progress and constraints with the Advisory Committee Members; and (b) to strengthen the collaboration linkage and service provision especially with GO service providing institutions. About 75 participants including resource farmers took part in the meeting. Mr. Md. Mozaharul Islam, Additional Director, DAE, Rajshahi conducted the meeting as a Chairman. Dr. M A Taher Miah, CSO, BRRI, Rajshahi; Dr. Golam Murtoza, CSO, HRC, Chapai Nawabgonj and Dr. Abutaher M. Ziauddin, M&E Specialist, FoSHoL-Coordination/IRRI Project were also present in the meeting as special guests. FoSHoL-CARE activities and outputs since December 2006 were presented through a video presentation; four resource farmers explained how they have benefited from FoSHoL-CARE project and improved their livelihoods. The representatives from GO institutions present (DAE, BADC, BRRI, SRDI, DLS, HRC) were highly positive to extend their hand to FoSHoL-CARE project farmers. Mr. Md. Azizul Islam (AD-DLS, Rajshahi) made a slide presentation on Bird Flu to make more awareness to the participants. Mr. Md. Mahabubul Islam Khan (Governance Coordinator-CARE), Md. Mizanour Rahman Choudhury (PC-FoSHoL-CARE), and other officers of FoSHoL Project including local partner NGO representatives took part in the meeting. At the end it was reported from the chair that the meeting was more productive and more organized than that of last Advisory Committee Meeting held on 27 December 2006.

The key outcomes of the meeting were:
  1. More collaborative efforts will be made between mainstream public sectors (BADC & DAE) and the FoSHoL-CARE project participants and farmers regarding easy availability of quality seed, and seed production and storage technology.
  2. DAE has agreed to have a list of farmers of FoSHoL-CARE projects so that more attention and necessary services could be provided them. This will help remove the farmers' fear of seeking services.
  3. DLS could issue ID/certificate to resource farmers who have obtained training on poultry vaccination and just has started offering poultry vaccination services to their localities.
  4. IRRI could extend help regarding adoption of demand led technology such as water saving technique (AWD), arrange capacity building training and conduct meeting with public service providing institutions to enhance their supports to FoSHoL-NGOs participants and households.
