Debriefing Session held on the study of Local Farming System of FoSHoL-CARE participating farmers of the Barind Tract Area

On Thursday March 22, 2007 FoSHoL-CARE organized a debriefing session on a study that has been completed recently. The study is the local farming system that is prevalent among the participants of FoSHoL-CARE living in the high Barind Tract Area. The consultant of this study Dr. S.M. Altaf Hossain, professor of Bangladesh Agricultural University presented the study to the audience with his four member study team.

The overall objective of this study was to assess local existing farming systems (soil condition, agro-ecological context etc.) and practices in the High Barind Tract areas to come up with comprehensive and practical recommendations for potential innovation and improvement in different farming systems such as cropping, livestock and fisheries as well as non-farm enterprises that have direct and indirect positive impact on different farming systems. The study also shed light on how effectively farmers and resource organizations can work together in improving farming technologies and innovations for each other's benefits by improving linkages and accessibility between them.

The sharing session was attended by FoSHoL-CARE senior staff, PNGOs' senior staff, representative of other CARE's projects' and units' staff including Dr. Ekramul Ahsan, Food Advisor, European Commission, Dr. Mohammad Zainul Abedin, Team Leader FoSHoL and IRRI Representative, Mahbubul Islam Khan Governance Coordinator, CARE Bangladesh, Dr. MA Quddus, Head of Rice Farming System Division, BRRI, Joydebpur, Gazipur , Dhaka, Dr. Abdul Momin Principal Scientific Officer, On Farm Research Division, BARI. The three hours presentation was followed by a question answer and discussion session.
