BLRI Technology Fair-cum-Training for FoSHoL-NGOs development workers held

 

The third Technology Fair-cum-Training for FoSHoL-NGOs field officers/development workers was held at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar, Dhaka during 7-8 April 2008. Six community development facilitators and farmers' representatives from FoSHoL-ActionAid, five field officers and development workers from FoSHoL-CARE and twelve development workers from FoSHoL-Practical Action and their partner NGOs took part in the programme. The participants took part in lively discussion and interacted with the scientists of the institution. They have also prepared a draft plan to obtain BLRI developed technologies such as breeding buck collection, fodder production, silage preparation, feed testing , beef fattening, and disease diagnostics. They seek future cooperation from BLRI regarding intensive training on specific technology and inputs of resource persons at field level as trainers.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Khan, DG of BLRI as Chief Guest. Mr. Sunil Chandra Gosh, DG of Bangladesh Livestock Services (DLS) and Dr. A. T. M. Ziauddin, M&E Specialist, FoSHoL-Coordination/IRRI Project were present as Special Guests. Dr. M. Zainul Abedin, IRRI Representative for Bangladesh and Team Leader of FoSHoL-Coordination/IRRI Project sent a message of blessings for the programme in the opening ceremony, as he was on an important field trip at the time. Dr. Sunil Chandra Gosh, DG, DLS in his opening remarks welcomed the initiative of FoSHoL-Coordination/IRRI and BLRI for arranging such a technology fair-cum-training. He informed the participants that DLS had been supporting FoSHoL programme at field level and would continue its support for improving livelihoods of rural poor. The Chief Guest welcomed the participants and called for thorough understanding of BLRI developed technologies and its effective dissemination to rural households.

In the closing session, participants spoke about their expectations and outcomes of the training. Mr. Zakir Hossain of FoSHol-Practical Action, on behalf of participants, expressed his satisfaction and usefulness of the training and requested BLRI authority to continue this effort. The Director General of BLRI in his closing remark told that BLRI was always ready for any kind of support possible on his part and requested participants to keep in touch with BLRI.
