ToT on IPM-CRSP-BARI technologies held for FoSHoL implementing partners

A three-day long training of trainers (ToT) was held from August 13 to 15, 2006 at the Horticulture Research Institute (HRC) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur for the field level officers of FoSHoL-CARE, FoSHoL-ActionAid and FoSHoL-Practical Action and their local NGO partners on Integrated Pest Management Collaborative Research Support Program (IPM CRSP) and BARI vegetable technologies. A total of 26 participants received this training. BARI scientists associated with IPM CRSP project acted as trainers.

During this three-day training the participants were exposed to the principles and practices of IPM, biological control of eggplant and cabbage pests, pheromone bait trapping for fruit fly control, practical demonstration of pheromone bait trapping, pest resistant eggplant varieties, grafting of eggplant and tomato, practical demonstration of grafting, soil amendment with poultry refuse and mustard oil-cake for management of soil-inhabiting disease pathogens, IPM approach for controlling leaf-eating pests of cabbage/ cauliflower, economic weed management in vegetables and IPM package for vegetable pest control.

Dr. A. N. M. Rezaul Karim, Coordinator of IPM CRSP Bangladesh Site, HRC Director Dr. M. Iqbal Akhtar, Director T&C of BARI Mr. M. Harun-ur-Rashid, Director Research of BARI Dr. M. Matiur Rahman, IRRI Liaison Scientist for Bangladesh Dr. M. A. Hamid Miah were present in the opening session while Director General, BARI, Dr. M. Sahadad Hussain was present as the Chairperson.

The Director General was also present in the concluding session on August 15, 2006 and distributed certificates among the trainees.
