FoSHoL-CARE organized Inception Workshop of its Steering Committee

FoSHoL-CARE organized a half day inception workshop of its Steering Committee on February 8, 2006 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing Office, Rajshahi. Senior officials of government agricultural agencies, universities, heads of FoSHoL-CARE sub-partners were present in the workshop.

The purpose of the inception workshop was to introduce the Steering Committee members to the project sub-partners, select a convener for the committee from the officials of participating government agencies, determine the Scope of Work (SoW) and prepare a Terms of Reference (ToR).

The objective of the Steering Committee is to build a strong network and coordination between the various government agencies and participants of the project so that they can be more functional, effective, accessible and smooth in their service delivery to the project beneficiaries i.e., small or marginal farmers.

 
The linkages and networking are also likely to help enhance the sustainability of the active relationship between the GO-NGO service delivery agencies and service recipients. Time to time the members of the Steering Committee will share their experiences, expertise and suggestions. The potential departments and institutions for the members of the committee are as follows:

2. Department of Livestock Services (DoLS)
3. Department of Fisheries (DoF)
4. Borendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA)
5. Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI)
6. Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute ( BARI )
7. Fruit Research Institute (FRI)
8. Horticulture Research Institute (HRI)
9. Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC)
10. Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI)
11. Rajshahi University (RU)
12. Directorate of Youth Development
13. Directorate of Women Affairs
14. Department of Social Welfare
15. Department of Food Control
16. Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE)

 

All participants accepted FoSHoL-CARE invitation to join in this Steering Committee and ensured their full support and cooperation to make this committee active. The committee members would meet in every three months. FoSHoL-CARE will take the responsibility of organizing the meeting and bear the cost. However, the venue of the meeting will be rotated among the members' office premises. The chairperson will also be selected as a rotating basis. The next meeting will be held in the Department of Botany of Rajshai University on any day in the 2 nd week of March, 2006 with the Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University as the Chief Guest and Additional Director of DAE, as the convener.

 
It is expected that the Steering Committee will act as an advisory board to the FoSHoL-CARE project.
