FoSHoL organized a launching ceremony for its website on Monday, February 27, 2006 from 9:00 am to 10:15 am at BRAC Centre Inn, 75 Mohakhali, Dhaka . This was organized as part of the FoSHoL Inception Progress Workshop that was held on February 27 & 28, 2006.
His Excellency Dr. Stefan Frowein, the Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh was the Chief Guest of the ceremony and formally launched the website. Mr. Klaus-Deiter Gautsch, First Secretary, Delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh , the Country Directors of FoSHoL implementing NGOs, Ms. Nasreen Haq of ActionAid Bangladesh , Mr. Steve Wallace of CARE Bangladesh and Ms. Veena Khaleque of ITDG were present while Dr. M A Baqui, Director-Research of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute chaired the ceremony. EC Food Security Adviser Mr. Vianney Labé, Task Manager for FoSHoL Dr. Ekramul Ahsan, FoSHoL team members including heads of local partner agencies were also present in this ceremony.
FoSHoL-IRRI Manager & IRRI Representative Dr. Noel P Magor gave a brief overview on the objective, major activities and progress summary of the FoSHoL project.
His Excellency the Ambassador in his speech informed that “Bangladesh is EC's second largest commitment in Asia. Food aid and more recently food security have been central areas of intervention for the EC in Bangladesh . The main objective for the food security program will be a sustainable reduction in the level of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition primarily among rural ultra-poor, particularly women beneficiaries and their dependents.”
Director-Research of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute and the Chair of the ceremony Dr. M A Baqui extended all possible assistance for FoSHoL. He also thanked the organizers for inviting him to Chair the event.
FoSHoL website is the hub of communication of the project. Links at this site provide information on the project, its activities, project documents, news, events, and other related websites. IRRI as a coordinating agency of FoSHoL will maintain this site in collaboration with the implementing partners.
