FoSHoL Project participated Mission 2011 Launching Ceremony and Exhibition

Bangladesh Telecentre Network (BTN) has organized launching Mission 2011 on 6 December 2007. Honourable Chief Advisor to the caretaker government of Bangladesh , Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed formally inaugurated the Mission 2011: Building Sustainable Information and Knowledge System for the Poor in Bangladesh at 12.00 hours at Bangladesh China Friendship Convention Centre (BCFCC). IRRI and FoSHoL Project's partners participated at the launching ceremony and exhibition during 6-7 December 2007.

BTN has targeted to set up 40,000 Telecentre by 2011, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the glorious independence of Bangladesh with the vision to establish ICT-based society in Bangladesh , where the poor and the marginalised people get access to information and knowledge for improving their livelihood through the use of modern information and communication technologies.

All the four components of FoSHoL-Programme (FoSHoL-Coordination/IRRI, FoSHoL-ActionAid, FoSHoL-CARE and FoSHoL-Practical Action) took part in exhibition, formally inaugurated by Mr. Tapon Chowdhury, Honourable Adviser, Ministry of Science and ICT. The main objective of participation to the exhibition was to highlight the opportunity of providing agricultural technology information to rural poor through telecentre network for strengthening food security and improving livelihood of households. A large number of visitors visited the exhibit stall and received hard materials of IRRI and FoSHoL-projects that contains valuable technology and success stories. IRRI as a partner of BTN also committed to work jointly with BTN for dissemination of information through 40,000 telecentre of Bangladesh .

The Knowledge Bank-based "Rice Production Training Module" of IRRI was formally open by Dr. M. Nurul Alam, Executive Chairman, BARC in the Launching Pad of the Mission 2011 held on 7 December 2007. Dr. M A Hamid Miah, IRRI Liaison Scientist for Bangladesh were present in the occasion. The module would be very much helpful to the rice growers, farmers, extension workers and other concern persons said Dr. Nurul Alam.
