Dr. M. Zainul Abedin has joined on September 21, 2006 as the new Team Leader of FoSHoL-IRRI project and IRRI Representative in Bangladesh. His primary responsibilities as the FoSHoL-IRRI Team Leader will be to provide coordination and support to the FoSHoL implementing NGOs as well as representing IRRI in the country and working closely with the IRRI Bangladesh Office so that activities are mutually complementary and contributing to the common goals.
He replaced Dr. Noel P. Magor who has joined IRRI Head Quarters. Prior to this position, Dr. Abedin was working in Ethiopia as Irrigated Agriculture Research Extension Adviser in the CIDA-funded Sustainable Water Harvesting and Institutional Strengthening in Amhara project. He also worked at IRRI Head Quarters as Farming System Specialist. In his early career, Dr. Abedin worked at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) as Chief Scientific Officer and Head of On-Farm Research Division (OFRD).
