FoSHoL-Practical Action organized fisheries training in Jamalpur

FoSHoL-Practical Action (PA) organized a week-long training course on Fishery Entrepreneurship Development in Jamalpur from November 20-26, 2006 in collaboration with Department of Fisheries (DoF). Twenty-two Rural Technology Extensionists (RTE) of FoSHoL-PA from all Upazilas of the District participated in the training.

District Fisheries Officer (DFO) of Jamalpur Mr. A. K. M. Akhtar Hossain inaugurated the training on November 20 at FHD training centre in Nandina of Jamalpur Sadar. DFO, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Habibur Rahman, Farm Manager Abul Hossain and Aquaculture Specialist Md. Rafiqul Islam Akanda facilitated the training sessions as resource persons. FoSHoL-PA team members also facilitated the training.

The training focused on pond aquaculture, fish nursery management, brood management of Self Recruited Species (SRS), integrated aquaculture, natural breeding of common carp, and culture technique of Genetically Improved Farmed Telapia (GIFT) and Thai Koi.

The training also covered risk and hazard management, marketing, fish culture option in char areas, community based fishery management etc. During field visit the trainees learned practical experiences of fish nursery management at government fish nursery in Jamalpur.

Mr. Ashraf Uddin, Area Manager of FoSHoL-PA addressed the closing session and awarded certificates to the trainees. Fisheries Officer of FoSHoL-Practical Action coordinated the course.
