FoSHoL will disseminate technologies identified by farmers to help improve their food security. These will also include technologies generated under the IRRI-PETRRA project. FoSHoL project is funded by the European Commission (EC), implemented by 3 international NGOs namely ActionAid Bangladesh, CARE Bangladesh and Practical Action Bangladesh (former ITDG) and coordinated by International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

The main focus of FoSHoL-CARE activities is to work for building farmers capacity to innovate their rice and non rice farm production including vegetables, trees, livestock, poultry and fisheries. They will train the resource-poor farmers and create farmers groups to identify and analyse opportunities and constraints with food security specific to their communities. They will also work for increasing capacities of the selected local actors to continue and replicate the project activities.
FoSHoL-Practical Action (former ITDG) is working in 16 Upazilas under 5 Distrcits covering approximately 7,500 households. They are: Jamalpur (Jamalpur Sadar, Dewanganj, Islampur, Madarganj, Sarishabari, Bokshigonj and Melandah), Faridpur (Faridpur Sadar, Boalmari, Char Bhadrasan and Nagarkanda), Rajbari (Goalondo and Baliakandi), Madaripur (Rajoir) and Shariatpur (Goshairhat and Bhedorgonj). The main focus of FoSHoL-Practical Action is to work with the resource-poor marginal and small farm households to increase food production and attain sustainable food and nutrition security through integrated production, processing and marketing approach in food insecure and vulnerable areas.
FoSHoL-IRRI is playing the coordinating role of this project that has diversity in service providers/partners, participating farmers, number of farm households, direct and indirect clients, types of interventions (technology, linkages, processing, marketing etc.), geographic coverage and intervention areas. While the three implementing NGOs deliver interventions to small and marginal farmers to improve the food security of their households, IRRI as a coordinating agency will ensure that the activities are conducted in a coherent, consistent, effective and efficient manner. |
